The firm was founded by Mr. Lester J. Shaw in 1932 as a one-man business. Over the years, there have been several changes in ownership and growth to our current staff size. We pride ourselves as a firm in our careful selection of staff people to fit the image developed over the years.

In addition to the individual affiliations indicated, L. J. Shaw and Company is an active member of the National Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters, the Loss Executives Association, the Adjusters Association of Chicago, the International Institute of Loss Adjusters, and the Western Loss Association.

Nino graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1990 with a degree in Corporate Communications. He began his adjusting career in January of 1991 with the Aetna Life and Casualty Company. While working at Aetna, he specialized in the handling of property claims and obtained the title of Senior Property Claim Representative. Nino joined the staff of L. J. Shaw and Company on January 8, 1996.  Nino is a past President and current member of the Adjuster’s Association of Chicago. He is also a member of the Western Loss Association and the National Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters (NAIIA). He has served as the Mid-States Region Regional Vice President for the NAIIA.  Nino handles all types of residential and commercial property claims. He is fluent in spoken and written Italian.

Nino obtained the title of General Adjuster on September 1, 2004; he has qualified for the designation of Registered Professional Adjuster (RPA # 1223); he became owner/Treasurer of the company January 1, 2005 and became CEO of L. J. Shaw & Company January 1, 2019.

Paul graduated from Northern Illinois University with a B.S. Degree in Finance in 1989. Upon graduation Paul launched his insurance adjusting career with Farmers Insurance in 1990, handling residential and commercial property claims, then he accepted a position with Hanover Insurance in 1996. There he handled an increasingly complex mix of personal and commercial lines property claims. Paul has solid computer skills and an ever increasing knowledge based in construction and cause of loss issues. He joined L. J. Shaw and Company in January of 1998, became a partner in 2005. Since joining L. J. Shaw and Company he has been a workshop panelist at the PLRB Conference, and is a past President of the Adjusters Association of Chicago.

Upon graduating with honors from Loyola University of Chicago in 1988, Mike began his adjusting career with Hanover Insurance. Beginning as a multi-line adjuster, he soon gravitated to property claims. While at Hanover, he attended and later taught many in-house training courses. In 1992, Mike joined Toplis & Harding where he handled major losses for hurricanes in Florida. Mike ascended to General Adjuster at R.S. Rozak and Company where he started in 1994. He is the past president of the Adjuster’s Association of Chicago. He joined the L. J. Shaw team in August of 2007 and became a partner in 2014. Since joining L. J. Shaw and Company he has been a workshop panelist at PLRB Conferences and handles all manner of property losses with special expertise in commercial matters and appraisals.

Kevin graduated from the University of Illinois in 1994 with a double major in History and Communications. Upon graduation he began his adjusting career with State Farm. During his tenure at State Farm he had a variety of property adjustment responsibilities, starting off as an intern in college, including field adjuster, re-inspector trainer, catastrophe specialist and large loss adjuster. Kevin joined us in 2002. In addition to working the Chicago Metropolitan area, Kevin has traveled extensively handling large and complex claims. He is familiar with a wide variety of construction methods in homeowner and commercial buildings. He uses that knowledge and his large loss estimating skills to handle homeowner and commercial losses throughout the country. Kevin was appointed as a General Adjuster in 2012 and is a past President of the Adjusters Association of Chicago.

T. R. attained his Associate in Claims (AIC) and General Adjuster designations specializing in the handling of first party property claims and damage appraisals. He started out with GAB Robbins and moved to L. J. Shaw & Company in 2005. He has several State Adjuster Licenses. His abilities to document the facts, provide coverage analysis and his estimating skills are well exhibited, along with his integrity and enthusiasm, have served him well at L. J. Shaw & Company. He handles claims in Chicago and the Mid-West and has also handled claims throughout the West, East and Southeast. T. R. works well with experts on large and complicated claims and is a past President of the Adjuster’s Association of Chicago. He graduated from Eastern Illinois University with his degree in Communications and Business.

Carlos joined LJ Shaw & Company in July of 2014. Carlos graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2010 with a major in Finance. After graduation, Carlos began his adjusting career at Allstate Insurance Company on Allstate’s National Catastrophe Team. While working on the Catastrophe Team, he traveled throughout the United States including being deployed to Hurricane Sandy in New York and to tornadoes in Moore Oklahoma and Adairsville Georgia. Carlos is a member of the Adjusters Association of Chicago. A lifelong Chicagoland resident and able to utilize his English and fluent Spanish language skills, Carlos is available to handle all types of property claims.

Anthony is the newest member of our firm. Anthony graduated from Marquette University with degrees in Finance, Economics, and German Language. He began his adjusting career with LJ Shaw & Company in January 2022 and has attained the Associate in Claims (AIC) designation and is a member of the Adjuster’s Association of Chicago. He has also successfully completed the Xactimate training program. He is a resident of Kenosha, WI and is eager to expand our established presence in Wisconsin. Anthony has a bright future ahead of him and we are excited to have him on our staff.

Tim graduated from Western Illinois University with a degree in Business Administration. He began his adjusting career with Underwriters Adjusting Company (UAC) where he served as Senior Claims Adjuster with the additional responsibilities of Property Claim Supervisor. Tim joined L. J. Shaw & Co. in 1979. He has been involved with the Western Loss Association (WLA), the International Institute of Loss Adjusters (IILA) and active with the National Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters (NAIIA) where he served on the Nominating Committee and as Chairman of the Credentials Committee.Tim is a member and past president of the Adjuster’s Association of Chicago (AAC). Tim is an Executive General Adjuster, a Registered Professional Adjuster (RPA #973) and holds many State Adjuster Licenses. He became an owner in 1994 and CEO in 2014, then sold his interest back to the company in 2016 and continues to share his expertise and knowledge with the staff and owners.

Bill graduated from the University of Illinois Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1973. He started his insurance career that year in the Life and Health insurance field with Equitable. In 1977 he joined GAB Services as a Property Adjuster in the Chicago Northside Office. He participated in the training and educational opportunities there, and in 1981 he joined the staff of L. J. Shaw and Company. Bill obtained his AIC designation in 1986 and achieved the title of General Adjuster in 1989. Bill has also qualified for the designation of Registered Professional Adjuster (RPA #1036). Bill is a Past President of the Adjuster’s Association of Chicago and a member of the Western Loss Association, National Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters (NAIIA) and the International Institute of Loss Adjusters (IILA). Bill was a Workshop Panelist or Chairman at the PLRB’s annual national educational Claims Conference and Insurance Services Expo, speaking and teaching on the topic of Adjusting Business Income Losses for a Service Business, for five consecutive years starting in 1998. He has also presented at the PLRB’s Regional Meetings on the subject of Recognizing and Responding to Potentially Fraudulent Losses. Bill handled all types of residential and commercial property claims and brought a special expertise to the handling of arson and fraud claims. Bill became an owner on January 1, 1994, then sold his interest back to the company in 2019 and continues to share his expertise and knowledge with the staff and owners, in addition to working on a part time basis performing administrative duties for the firm.
